Inspiring MIA | Behind the Vanity

The MIA vanity – which translates to ‘mine’ in Italian – was named after the wonderful Mia Lake of Mia Lake Interiors.

The incredible thing about good design is that it doesn’t need to be complicated to make an impression. The MIA vanity – which translates to ‘mine’ in Italian – was named after the wonderful Mia Lake of Mia Lake Interiors. And this was the designer’s inspiration behind creating the special piece too: “it’s more than a vessel to wash my hands at – I wanted to create luxury for the time that is just mine,” says Mia. Of course, she didn’t just create it for herself, but rather she wanted the vanity to symbolise those quiet moments one has to themselves as they start and end each day.

The result is breathtaking. Mia has always been drawn to unusual, organic elements to her work and the unique product she’s brought to life is no different. The MIA vanity has almost an old Hollywood feel to it, incorporating curves in not only the shape of its structure but in the materials used, like the ripples of natural stone.

“I really wanted the end user to feel beauty when looking into [the MIA’s] beautiful mirror,” says Mia, alluding to its gorgeous mirror cabinets. MIA provides the perfect opportunity for one to complement its design with stunning wall lights, and can be coupled beautifully as a his and hers set or even stand strongly on its own. Speaking of standalone, the vanity’s luxe appeal is unlimited in functionality. In a way, the designer has cleverly created an interior product that could easily double as a piece of furniture. She believes MIA would look equally at home in a hallway, bedroom, or living room.

What we love about working with Mia is her penchant for versatile design, and the MIA vanity’s five unique finishes lend themselves to a multitude of diverse people who appreciate good design. Paired with Nood Co’s pastel peach concrete basin at our Studio xox showroom, the MIA in soft grey makes an unforgettable impression. “It adds a pop of joy to a somewhat serious design and the contrast between the two tones sparks interest,” says Mia. We invite you to visit our showroom today and see the entire collection of one-of-a-kind MIA vanities for yourself.
